Project 8: Two Portraits

Pre Work
Fine Art Portraits
Julia Hernandez
Philippe Halsman
I enjoy this portrait because of the authors use of colors and light. The girls expression as well as the layers of detail and light makes the picture appeal to me. I enjoy the second one because of the combination of Salvador Dali's facial expression and the black and white color palette. I like the effect of the photo.

Commercial Magazine Covers
This magazine cove of The Queen B herself is a powerful cover. Beyonce's pose as well as the main title of the article about her show her influence in the world. This cover works well at making me want to read more. The second magazine cover of Obama seems unique to me. The color palette and style make this different to symbolize the way the the presidency was different because of Barack Obama.

Fine Art Portraits vs Commercial Magazine Covers
Fine art portraits and magazine covers are similar but different. The purpose of fine art portraits is too show emotion in the model and make the viewer feel something. The photographer's job is too tell a story by using emotion, mood, and feeling in the composition. Magazine covers are supposed to make the reader interested in reading the magazine. The color, mood, and titles can make a big difference in making a magazine cover more desirable to the general public.
